What are Emollients in Skincare?
A Complete Guide to These Hydrating Heroes Ever wondered why some days your skin feels as smooth as silk, while other times it's giving desert vibes? The secret might just lie in those beauty-industry buzzwords...
The Korean skincare regime or popularly known as ten step skincare routine is gaining widespread popularity. Korean beauty care is also known for glass skin which is synonymous with a smooth, clear, flawless, and hydrated complexion. Here's how to achieve glass skin, your skin needs to look and feel the healthiest in every aspect.
What is glass skin?
The term “glass skin” originated in Korea and soon became popular in the United States. So what exactly is glass skin? To put it simply, glass skin is having flawless, clear skin. Typically, people are referring to your face when referencing the term. Many industry experts specifically refer to glass skin as having a glowing and healthy-looking face.
Korean skincare gurus generally recommend following a multi-step skincare regime to achieve that beautiful glass skin look. But it’s important to realize that the appearance of healthy skin or glass skin really starts from within. It’s not something that happens overnight. Getting glass skin usually requires a healthy and balanced lifestyle, as well as a dedicated skincare routine.
Always double cleanse
Many skin experts recommend that everyone should wash their face twice. This includes a gentle oil cleanser first that won’t clog pores or strip your skin of its natural oils and gently remove all the dirt and oil that has accumulated on the face throughout the day. After washing your face with an oil-based cleanser, use a foaming face wash or a foam-based cleanser that cleans any impurities or dirt that must have seeped within the skin. Exfoliate
The second step after cleansing your face is to exfoliate. Exfoliation helps you to get rid of dead skin cells and removes blackheads. However, if you have sensitive skin, then you should exfoliate not more than twice a week and use a mild chemical-based exfoliator. Exfoliation is a great way to clear your skin from within.
Use a toner
After exfoliation, your face might feel a bit dry and so as to restore the natural pH of the skin, always use a toner. With toner, the rest of the products also get absorbed better and it is a great way to achieve glass skin. Korean skincare lovers consider toners very crucial as they set a base for the remaining products. Pick a toner based on your skin type. That said, try to avoid toners that contain alcohol since it may further dry the skin out. Try to use a toner that has a similar pH level to your skin.
Try an essence
Essence is a thin water-based product that replenishes the moisture on the skin. By adding an essence to your skincare routine, you can increase your moisture retention and add a natural glow. Many Korean skincare experts swear by using essence to hydrate your skin. You can try an essence that has Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate your skin from within. Our Patchology Rosé Sheet Masks are packed with an activating essence that includes Resveratrol and Hyaluronic Acid.
Use a serum or a face oil
Another staple in any glass skin regime is to incorporate either serum or any hydrating facial oil that is filled with antioxidants and is lightweight so that it absorbs easily. Your serum should essentially have anti-aging properties and should protect your skin from any free radicals. Usually, people use Vitamin C-based serum or Niacinamide which reduces the appearance of dark spots. As for facial oil, you can choose a natural plant-based facial oil that deeply nourishes your skin and doesn’t clog pores.
Put moisturizer
Always use a moisturizer that suits your skin type. Your moisturizer should be free from any paraben or toxic chemicals. For smooth and supple skin, use a moisturizer that does not feel heavy or greasy on your skin. You can try hydrating moisturizers which deeply nourish your skin.
Protect with a sunscreen
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any Korean skincare routine. This not only protects your skin against harmful UV radiation but also acts as a barrier against skin aging, wrinkles, and pigmentation. You want to look for one that’s hydrating, protecting, and won’t leave behind residue.
Drink Water
It’s the step that we always seem to neglect. But find me a person with great skin and you’re likely to find a person who is well hydrated!
Is Glass Skin worth the effort?
Yes! Sort of…Glass skin is only worth it if it is a reflection (pun intended!) of your skin health. While we all want to look good, it’s important to start with your overall health. So if you are seeking glass skin as part of your general skin health journey, you’re on the right path!
